The Different Styles of Sake

Serving Sake? It comes in four different styles...

Junmai

Sake made using only rice, water, yeast and koji, i.e. without any additives or added alcohol.

Junmai Ginjo

Premium Sake made with rice milled down to at least 60% of its original size and made without any additives in the Junmai style.

Junmai Daiginjo

Super-premium Sake made with rice milled down to at least 50% of its original size and made without any additives in the Junmai style.

Honjozo

Sake made from water, yeast, koji and rice that has been milled down to at least 70% of its original size. Unlike Junmai Sake, it includes the addition of some distilled brewers’ alcohol.
