Chateau Pédesclaux

Chateaux Pédesclaux was created in the early 19th century by Urbain Pierre Pédesclaux, a well-known wine broker in Bordeaux. He formed the estate by purchasing plots from different famous wineries in Pauillac following the French Revolution, in a move that was symbolic at the time of the arrival of the bourgeoisie in the Medoc, which had previously sat solely under aristocratic rule. In the 1855 classification, Chateau Pédesclaux was named one of eighteen Fifth Growths.

Francois and Jacky Lorenzetti acquired the estate in 2009, and set about expanding immediately. Over the next few years, they almost doubled the estate's size from 26 to 50 hectares, of which 12 hectares were Medoc vines situated next to parcels owned by Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Every vineyard went through a transformative process as they ran an in-depth programme of soil studies and subsequent vine replanting, completely developing both the potential and reputation of the estate. The winery itself is state-of-the-art, designed by famed architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte in 2014.

Pédesclaux wines are composed of roughly 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. The estate produces three wines: its first wine, Chateau Pédesclaux, a second wine, Fleur de Pédesclaux, and a third wine sold under the Haut-Médoc appellation, Le Haut-Médoc de Pédesclaux.
