Domaine Michel Magnien is a producer of singular style and philosophy.
Having started as growers in Morey-Saint-Denis, the Magnien family sold their grapes to a local co-operative until 1993, when Michel Magnien's son Frederic joined the business and persuaded his father to bottle the entire harvest by themselves. This first vintage was a success, as was the next - and today, the estate has grown to 45ha, spread across the villages of Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne Romanee, with holdings in several premier cru and grand cru vineyards. Average vine age is around 50 years.
With Frederic now at the helm, this is a Domaine that has continued experimenting with their approach to winemaking, in search of constant improvement. Certified biodynamic in 2015 - although these practices were in use from the late 1900s - Frederic has also been experimenting with the vessels he ages his wines in, now using a combination of wood and terracotta in order to better preserve the freshness and purity of fruit in his wines.
