New from Bodegas Criadores de Rioja, Viñedos La Maldita was created in 2013, seeking to share the potential of the Garnacha variety in Rioja. Garnacha was previously outlawed and ill-fated vineyards, losing prominence in favour of Tempranillo because it was unprofitable. But fortunately, Garnacha has recovered its pulse in Rioja. After decades of decline in the number of hectares occupied by Garnacha, the figure stopped falling, and is recovering lost ground. La Maldita is a tribute to this recovery. It is a return to the origins, to the vineyard, to the terroir and to environmental friendliness.
The grapes used come exclusively from the municipality of Tudelilla, from a single vineyard: Panizares. These are two very special variables, because the single-town origins of the wine are enhanced with the personality of a unique plot, situated at an altitude of 710 metres, in the foothills of Sierra Carbonera.
The Bodegas Criadores family business has successfully created their own style of modern and fruity wines, while still respecting the traditional characteristics of Rioja wines: a perfect balance between the red fruit typical of the Tempranillo variety and aging in American and French oak barrels.
