Sepp Mantler is an institution in Austria and one of the most respected winemakers within his native Kremstal. The estate is based in a 16th Century monastery and has been in the family for over 200 years - his wife’s great, great, great grandfather first planting vineyards in 1805. Such is the history rooted in the Estate and the family, it is reported that one of Sepp’s ancestors founded the native Neuberger variety within the vineyards of Mantlerhof.
The 14 hectares of vineyards of steep, terraced vineyards are on prime loess soils and farmed organically - a conscious decision by Sepp to ensure his wines are a true representation of the climate and soil of the Kremstal. He concentrates on traditional Austrian varieties Roter-Veltliner and Gruner-Veltliner, but his Rieslings (especially the sweet ones) are also stunning.
The wines are highly regarded in international markets, regularly gaining high Wine Spectator scores for their elegance, structure and purity. They are intense and concentrated without being over-powering and have beautifully balanced acidity that leaves you wanting more.
