Quinta da Pedra Alta

Iconic Douro producer of port and still wines

Quinta da Pedra Alta looks over the remarkable Pinhao Valley, sitting at the highest point of the in Soutelinho-Favaios near Alijó. The vineyard is steeped in rich history dating back to the late 18th century, and – when exploring the vineyards you may even spot the three granite markers, or Feitoria, that were put in place for the demarcation of the Port region between 1758 to 1751. It is believed that they are the only single Quinta with three Feitoria. The vineyards sit at varying heights, between 230m – 550m, with a breadth of indigenous varieties planted across the 35-hectare estate, including Rabigato, Gouveio, Viosinho, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Sousao.

While always honouring their history and tradition, Quinta da Pedra Alta’s vision is firmly set on the future. They believe that through innovation they can realise the full potential of this unique piece of land. With winemaker and viticulturist João Pires at the helm, Quinta da Pedra Alta produces a diverse range of wines from rich Douro reds, modern interpretations of white Ports, as well as a ten-year-old Tawny. Having worked at Pedra Alta since 2009, João has developed a deep understanding and connection to the terroir.

It is a close-knit team at Pedra Alta, who are united by their passion for creating exceptional wines, deep respect for their Portuguese roots, and desire to bring people together through wine.
